Wakefield’s Cristina Winsor captures women’s title
WAKEFIELD — The fifth annual AMPT “Earn your Turkey” 5K had a huge turnout on Thanksgiving morning as over 700 runners competed and finished the race which was held around Lake Quannapowitt.
Wakefield’s Cristina Winsor, 46, was the female winner of the race in a time of 21:00, while Wilmington’s Carl Hartford, 29, came in first in the men’s race with a time of 16:38.
Winsor beat out Lynnfield’s Julie Donovan, 23, and Melrose’s Courtney Koschei, 29. Donovan was second in the women’s race at 21:37 and Koschei finished third as she clocked in at 21:48.
Wakefield’s Erica Ferrell, 32, also placed among the top 10 in the women’s race as she claimed 10th place with a time of 22:34.
Rounding out the top 10 women were: Claire Smith of Cortlandt, N.Y., Erin McDonough of Stoneham, Eileen Conte of Burlington, Nicolette Pelline of Methuen, Emma Dickinson of Saugus and Alexandra Kay of Melrose. They secured fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth with times of 21:49, 21:50, 22:16, 22:16, 22:30 and 22:33.
Hartford came in first in the men’s race as he crossed the finish line ahead of Melrose’s Charles Arnold, 18, and Lynnfield’s Tom O’Shea, 19. Arnold posted a second place time of 16:54 and O’Shea clocked in at 17:01 for third place.
Wakefield’s Shawn Conway, 44, was fourth overall with a time of 17:41. Also finishing in the top 10 from Wakefield was Chris Skeldon, 16. Skeldon finished in ninth place at 18:19.
Rounding out the top 10 for the men were: Jason Baer of South Burlington, Vt., Tom O’Donnell of Melrose, Brendan Ring of Reading, Jeff Caron of Boston and Matthew Stubbs of Medford. They finished in fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and 10th with times of 17:54, 17:56, 18:04, 18:11 and 18:34.
There were also male and female winners in a number of age categories.
Melrose’s Sean Kay (18:49) and Lynnfield’s Colleen Mackey (26:04) were the male and female first place finishers in the 1-13 age group.
O’Donnell and Smith won the male and female 14-19 year old age group.
Saugus’ Jason Guarante (19:06) and McDonough were the champs of the 20-29 age group, while Baer and Dickinson were the winners at the 30-39 age group.
Conway and Conte were the first place finishers in the 40-49 age group.
In the male and female 50-59 age category, Holliston’s Bill St. George and Wakefield’s Lucy Skeldon came in first with times of 20:25 and 27:50.
Fairfield, Vt.’s Bruce Patterson and Beverly’s Irene Woods came in first in the 60-69 age group with times of 23:38 and 27:34.
In the men’s 70-99 age group, Melrose’s John Piasecki was first in a time of 35:06.
