Doherty-obit-webMELROSE — Edward “Ed” Doherty, 76, of Melrose, died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Feb. 20.

Ed was born and raised in Cambridge, was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School, Class of 1956 and went on to attend technical school for several years. He worked as an electronic technician for Datametrics in Wilmington for over 20 years, B&W Press in Georgetown for 15 years and in sales at Macy’s in Saugus for 10 years.

Ed loved computers, electronics, police scanners, older American cars and was active in the Cambridge Boy Scouts many years ago. He was an avid reader and enjoyed Disney World, cruises and spending time in Boca Grande, Fla. and York Beach, Maine.

Ed was the beloved husband of Carol M. (Crowley) Doherty of 45 years. He was the loving father of Greg E. Doherty and his wife Michele of Windham, N.H. and Susan M. Doherty and her fiancé Melvin Fernandes of Melrose. He was the cherished grandfather of Sophia and Isabella. He was the caring brother of Mary Doherty of Vermont, Carol Doherty of Chelmsford and the late Paul Doherty and his wife Fran of Arlington and the late Dan Doherty and his late wife Mary. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
