Elizabeth-Wetherbee-obit-webMELROSE — Elizabeth “Betty” (Churchey) Wetherbee, 94, a longtime Melrose resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Natick on June 10, 1921, Betty was one of four children of the late James and Eva (Lacho) Churchey. She was raised in Natick and Somerville, where she graduated from Somerville High School. Elizabeth and Alfred Wetherbee were married on April 4, 1948 and moved to Melrose in 1964 to raise three children.

Mrs. Wetherbee worked for Aetna Life Insurance Co. in Boston for many years, before moving to the Wilson Insurance Agency to be closer to home. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Melrose Chapter. In her free time, Betty enjoyed mystery novels by female authors, knitting, crochet and was an avid reader. She had a good sense of humor and liked making her family laugh, especially her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by her family.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late Alfred D. Wetherbee, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Alison L. Marcotti and her late husband Doug Marcotti Jr. of Melrose, Philip D. Wetherbee of Melrose and Debra G. Schille and her husband Paul of Melrose. She was the dear sister of the late Peter Churchey, Dorothy Letizi and Helen McCormack. She was the cherished grandmother of Keith D. Marcotti, Andrea L. Marcotti, Devin R. Wetherbee, Ian D. Wetherbee, Eric P. Schille, Ryan D. Schille and the late Michael J. “Mikey” Marcotti and Matthew C. Schille. She was the loving great-grandmother of Ashlynne, Julian, Aarya, Ava, Nicholas and Luciano. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
