Guiry-obit-webMELROSE — Ellen M. (Woods) Guiry, 90, passed away at Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Medford on January 29.

Ellen was born in Boston, raised in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School.

Mrs. Guiry lived in Stoneham for 6 years, Medford for 35 years, Las Vegas for 17 years and in Melrose since 2007.

Ellen worked as an administrator at the Teradyne Company in Boston for 25 years and part-time at Weight Watchers in Boston and in Las Vegas for 30 years. While working in Boston Ellen would attend Mass at Arch Street every morning prior to going to work.

She was an avid 10-pin bowler for over 50 years playing in Medford and Las Vegas, was an excellent seamstress and baker even though she was blind with biscuits being her specialty.

Ellen had a great sense of humor and was feisty right up until the end. But above all she was so proud of her family and cherished the times spent with them.

Mrs. Guiry was the devoted wife of the late Patrick Cunnally and the late Thomas A. Guiry. She was the beloved mother of James Guiry and his wife Diane of Melrose, the late Thomas F. Guiry and his wife Cheryl Guiry of Everett and the late Katherine and Richard Guiry. She was the caring sister of William Woods and his wife Judith of Falmouth and the late George Woods, Mary Woods and Dorothy Walsh. She was the cherished grandmother of Kathryn Castle and her husband Andrew of Stow, Monica Boudreau and her husband Martin of Chelmsford, James Guiry and his wife Tracy of Middleton, Brian Guiry and his wife Sandy of Everett and Jennifer Guiry and her partner Vicky Waltz of Arlington. Also survived by 9 loving great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Thursday, February 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, February 17, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Interment at Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Nevada will be private.
