EllenShiel-webCONCORD, NH — Ellen Theresa Shiel, 96, of Concord, New Hampshire died on Tuesday, May 30, at the Concord Hospital.
Born in Roxbury, MA on July 20, 1920, she was the daughter of Irish immigrants, the late Edwin J. and Margaret A. (Gately) Nestor.
Ellen received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from the Teachers College of the City of Boston.
She worked as a teacher for the Boston Public School system and as an executive assistant for American Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Ellen was married in 1949 to the late James Shiel and together they raised their large family in Wakefield. During her 32 years in Wakefield, Ellen was an active member of Saint Joseph Parish where she taught CCD. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and rug braiding and frequently participated in Wakefield’s Adult Education program to hone her skills in these areas.
She is survived by her eight children: Thomas Shiel of Greenfield, NH, Patricia Shiel of Northwood, NH, Rosemary Shiel of Sheridan, WY, Martin Shiel of Springfield, MA, Mari Shiel of Concord, MA, Jeanne Shiel of Concord, NH, Timothy Shiel of Gaston, OR and Charles Shiel of Burlington, MA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Karley Humphries and Jacqueline Scarborough. She was predeceased by her siblings: William Nestor, Edward Nestor, Father Matthew Nestor – Passionist Missionary, Steven F. Nestor Sr. and Mary Nestor AuClair.
Ellen’s funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m., followed by an interment at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
