NORTH READING — The 2023 fall sports season officially begins with practices and tryouts next week at North Reading High.
The football team starts their journey even sooner as they can begin this Friday. The gridmen will have three scrimmages before they kick off the regular season on Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m. at Amesbury. They travel to Nantucket on Saturday, Aug. 26 before hosting Kipp Academy on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Their final scrimmage is at Wakefield on Friday, Sept. 1.
The rest of the fall sports can begin with practices/tryouts this Monday, Aug. 21.
The girls’ and boys’ cross country teams won’t hold any scrimmages but will start their season with the Clipper Relay at Maudslay State Park on Saturday, Sept. 9.
The golf team will also jump right into league play starting on Tuesday, Aug. 29 when they travel to Black Swan Country Club to take on Georgetown.
The volleyball team’s regular season starts on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 5:30 p.m. at Georgetown.
The field hockey team will compete in the CAL Play Day on Saturday, Aug. 26 and will continue to tune up for the regular season when they travel to Essex Tech for a scrimmage on Aug. 29. The Hornets and Hawks will meet again in Danvers on Sept. 6 for the regular season opener as Essex Tech begins their first season in the Cape Ann League.
The boys’ soccer team will have three scrimmages to get ready for the season. They travel to Bedford on Aug. 31, host Wilmington on Sept. 1 and travel to Reading on Sept. 2. Their season opener will be on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at Essex Tech.
The girls’ soccer team will have four scrimmages before they kick off the regular season on Sept. 5, 4:45 p.m. at home against Essex Tech. The Hornets will host Reading on Aug. 25; travel to Wilmington on Aug. 28; host Stoneham on Aug. 31 and travel to North Andover on Sept. 2.
