WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Police arrested a 29-year-old Peabody man yesterday afternoon for possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute after stopping the car he was driving on Salem Street.
Police said that Officer John Whaley was on patrol driving north on Salem Street at about 4:45 p.m. when he observed a black Volkwagen Passat in front of him swerve and cross the double yellow line several times.
After stopping the car near Eunice Circle, Whaley detected an odor of marijuana coming from the car, police said. He also located a digital scale in the back seat. In the trunk of the car, Whaley found multiple plastic bags containing 13 grams of a light brown powder believed to be fentanyl.
Police arrested Adramel L. Contreras of 36 Keyes Dr. in Peabody for possession of a Class A narcotic with intent to distribute. He was also charged with having an open container of marijuana in a vehicle and speeding. He was scheduled to appear in Malden District Court today.

A Derry, NH woman was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after the 2003 Mercury she was driving was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer at the Route 128 off-ramp at North Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. yesterday. The car had to be towed from the scene.

Police arrested a 33-year-old Richardson Avenue man for disorderly conduct after separate episodes on Princess Street and North Avenue. Police were initially called to Princess Street at about 12:15 p.m. on a report of a man yelling and causing a disturbance. They were able to calm the man and sent him on his way, only to get another call at about 12:45 p.m. of the same man yelling, swearing and walking in traffic on North Avenue. Police arrested Diegains Previlon of 39 Richardson Avenue on charges of disorderly conduct.

At about 4 p.m., a caller reported that a truck had become stuck after backing up over a wall on Lake Street. A tow truck was called. There was minor damage to the wall.

The Fire Department responded to 10 calls yesterday, including six for medical aid.
