WAKEFIELD — A melee at a Lafayette Street group home last night resulted in the arrest of three female juveniles on various charges including assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. Two of the girls were 15 years old and one was 13.

Police were called to the home at about 9 p.m. on a report of a fight inside the residence. Arriving officers located an apparent victim hiding in a shed behind the home. The victim told police that she had been assaulted by other residents of the home and she did appear to have visible injuries, according to police.

While speaking with the victim, several other young women, who were apparently part of the dispute,  came out of the house and began yelling at the officers. A group home staff member who tried to intervene was shoved by one of the 15-year-old girls. When officers attempted to take the girl into custody, she allegedly began fighting with officers and spitting at them.

When all was said and done, one 15-year-old girl was arrested for assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

A second 15-year-old female was arrested and charged with assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct.

A 13-year-old female was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

One driver was taken by Action Ambulance to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital with unspecified injuries after a two-car crash on Nahant Street near the Pit at about 9:15 Friday morning. Police said that a 2003 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on Nahant Street and crossed over into the oncoming lane, colliding with a 2017 Hyundai Alantra. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital. The Toyota driver refused treatment by paramedics but was cited for a marked lanes violation. Both cars had to be towed from the scene. Responding firefighters swept up debris and spread absorbent to soak up spilled vehicle fluids.

One driver was cited for failure to yield following a crash at Common and Church streets at about 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Police said that a 2001 Volkswagen Passat was coming out of Common Street and collided with a 2003 Honda Accord on Church Street. The driver of the Volkswagen was cited.

Following up on a report, police located three youths on the train tracks near Broadway at about 5 p.m. on Friday and sent them on their way.

At about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, police recovered two syringes found on Main Street and disposed of them.

Just after 4 p.m. a caller reported that his vehicle was struck by an unknown car while parked on Columbia Road. Police noted minor damage to the vehicle.

There were no injuries following a minor crash between a 2011 Acura and a 2004 Toyota Scion near the intersection of Main Street and Yale Avenue at about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

At about 8 a.m. on Sunday, Police, Fire and Action Ambulance went to a crash at Vernon and Salem streets between a 2006 Nissan Altima and a 2016 Toyota Corolla. Police said that the Nissan was traveling south on Vernon Street when the Toyota began backing out of a driveway, resulting in the collision.

Separate incidents at about 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday involving youths trespassing on the old Winship property on Mansion Road drew police response. In both instances, the youths were located and sent on their way.

At about 8 p.m. Sunday night, a 15-year-old girl was arrested for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace after police were called to the area of 390 Main Street on a report of females yelling and screaming. According to police, a group of girls were looking for another girl with whom they had a beef. As officers tried to calm the situation down, one of the girls reportedly continued yelling and threatening officers. She was taken into custody.

The Fire Department responded to 26 calls over the weekend, of which 16 were for medical aid.

At around midnight on Saturday, firefighters went to Route 128 southbound between exits 40 and 41 for a two-car crash. A woman driving one of the cars was taken to the hospital after she sustained a hand injury as a result of air bag deployment. The other driver was not injured. One of the cars had to be towed.

At about 10 p.m. on Saturday, firefighters went to a home on Druid Hill Avenue after a reported carbon monoxide problem. They did detect an elevated reading and believed it may have resulted from a car being run in the garage. Firefighters vented the home.
