WAKEFIELD — Supt. of Schools Dr. Kimberly J. Smith has named three people finalists for the position of Assistant Superintendent of the Wakefield Public Schools.

She wrote in a letter yesterday, “From an initial applicant pool of 58, I reviewed and selected 10 resumes to present to an interview committee. The interview committee, comprised of district and school leaders, faculty, staff and parents, spanning all grade levels, interviewed the 10 candidates on Aug. 5 and 6.

“The interview committee brought forward three outstanding finalists: Mr. Paul Bavuso, Gr. 5-12 ELA curriculum coordinator, Wakefield Public Schools; Mr. Douglas Lyons, Walter S. Parker Middle School principal, Reading Public Schools, and Ms. Debra Ruggerio, E.J. Harrington Elementary School principal, Lynn Public Schools.

“These three finalists will visit the Wakefield Public Schools this week, during which time I will engage them in a second round, in-depth interview, evaluating the leadership, knowledge, experience and skills that will best match the needs of our school district at this time.

“I would like to thank the interview committee for their diligence, time and effort in selecting our finalists. I expect to announce the name of our new Assistant Superintendent no later than Aug. 25 so that we will begin the school year with this important role in place,” Smith’s letter concludes.
