LYNNFIELD — It is with great sadness that Fire Chief Mark W. Tetreault announces the sudden passing of Retired Lieutenant Alan R. Macdonald on February 11, 2017.
“Although officially retired, Lt. Macdonald was extremely active in the fire service and continued to mentor, train and leave his permanent mark on the Massachusetts Fire Service,” Tetreault said.
A veteran who served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1958–1964, he also amassed over 50 years of service as a call firefighter in three communities: Wakefield (1954–1977), Lynnfield (1981–2009), where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant and Fire Alarm Superintendent, and Newbury, from which he recently retired after serving there for more than a decade.
“Most recently Lt. Macdonald served on the hiring committee for the Lynnfield Fire Department and has been instrumental in selecting our next generation of call firefighters,” Tetreault said.
He was active in numerous fire service organizations including the Essex County Fire Chiefs Association, Past President Box 52 Association, Lynnfield Firefighters Relief Association, SPAAMFAA and MAFAA.
“Please keep Alan’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Lt. Alan R. Macdonald end of watch, we will take it from here,” Tetreault said.
