NORTH READING — It’s two weeks into the new year and the North Reading Transcript is eagerly looking for the first baby born in 2017 to a North Reading family.

The Transcript and many other local businesses are poised to shower the lucky first baby of 2017 with a variety of generous gifts in the newspaper’s 11th annual First Baby contest.

Since no winners came forward by last Friday’s deadline, the Transcript has extended the deadline to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16 at noon. This extension will give families a little extra time to contact us. We’re counting on our readers to help us spread the word to any expectant parents they may know who also reside in North Reading.

Acceptance of the winning entry is contingent upon the mother’s and father’s consent to have a photograph of the baby and themselves accompany a story published in the Transcript.

Entries must include documentation such as the name of the hospital or place where the baby was born, and the time and date of the baby’s birth.

A new deadline will be announced by the Transcript if a winner does not come forward by Jan. 16.

Contact the newspaper by e-mail: nrtranscript@rcn.com or by phone: 978-664-4761 or 781-245-0080 with the pertinent information.

The winning family must reside in North Reading. The decision of the newspaper is final. Relatives of newspaper employees or contest sponsors are ineligible.
