LYNNFIELD — Former NBA star Chris Herren will be giving a community presentation on Monday, March 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Lynnfield Middle School auditorium.

Herren was born in Fall River and dreamed about playing for his beloved Boston Celtics while suiting up for the Durfee High School basketball team. After playing college basketball at Boston College and Fresno State University, Herren was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft. He also played for the Celtics as well overseas.

As reported by numerous media outlets, Herren has struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career. He has been drug-free and alcohol-free since August 2008. Herren has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. He attends meetings daily to support his substance free lifestyle and often speaks before groups trying to overcome addiction to share his experiences and road to sobriety.

Herren has spoken to Lynnfield High School students on two separate occasions. During this presentation, Herren will discuss his decent into addiction, his miraculous recovery and his determination to help make a difference in people’s lives.
