LYNNFIELD — Four members of the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team made the two Cape Ann League All-Star teams this season. Three Pioneers, Jack Calichman, Drew Damiani and Steve Dreher were named CAL First-Team All-Stars while Kelan Cardinal was named the CAL Second-Team All-Stars.

For Calichman, it was his second year in a row making the first team despite only playing nine games due to a back injury.

JACK CALICHMAN

The senior co-captain had 17 goals and 43 assists.

“He got off to a hot start before getting hurt,” said Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta, about the midfielder. “He is the best playmaker I have ever coached and his recovery after the injury was very impressive.”

Calichman is the school’s all-time assist leader with 139 despite the injury and missing freshman year due to Covid. He will be going to Phillips Exeter in New Hampshire for a post-grad year in September.

Damiani is also on the First-Team All-Stars for the second consecutive year. The senior co-captain missed four games due to a wrist and shoulder injury. Despite that, the attacker had 21 goals to go with 11 assists.

“He is a tough kid with the fastest shot I have seen,” said Lamusta.

DREW DAMIANI

Damiani is going to Bentley University this fall.

Dreher made his first-ever All-Star appearance this spring. The senior defender had one goal and three assist for four points. He also was tied with Owen White in ground balls with 69.

“He could go the whole length of the field,” said Lamusta. “He also ended up covering the other team’s best players.”

STEVE DREHER

Dreher is going to UMass-Amherst next year.

Cardinal also made his first-ever All-Star team as the sophomore midfielder had 37 goals and 51 assists to lead the team in points with 88.

“He really stepped up when Jack got hurt,” said Lamusta. “He has great vision and was the catalyst for our offense when Jack was out.”

KELAN CARDINAL

Lynnfield reached the MIAA Division 4 quarterfinal game before losing to Sandwich, 13-4, on June 9 to end the year at 12-9.

In the Cape Ann League, they went 5-7 as they came in third place in the Baker Division.
