WAKEFIELD — Yesterday was the first day nomination papers were available for the Special Election to fill a vacancy on the Board of Selectmen, and four people have already expressed interest in the post.

Taking out nomination papers for the position Wednesday were current School Committeeman Christopher J. Callanan, 600 Salem St., #209; Veterans Advisory Board member Daniel L. Benjamin Jr., 10 Foster St., #205; former Selectman Phyllis J. Hull, 14 Indian Hill, and Nathaniel David Gayman, 30 Charles St.

The Special Election was set for July 19 by the selectmen at their meeting Monday night. Selectmen Brian Falvey and Patrick Glynn were unable to attend this week’s meeting.

Hull — armed with over 200 signatures — petitioned the board to hold the Special Election. At least two selectmen, Paul DiNocco and Tony Longo, pleaded with her to withdraw her request and wait for the state primary in September. She refused, arguing the sooner the Board of Selectmen is back to its full seven members, the better.

There is still time for those interested in running for the seat — vacated after Betsy Sheeran was elected Town Clerk — to do so.

Here are some key Special Election dates.
