Francis-Sampson-obit-webWINCHESTER — Francis G. “Frank” Sampson, 73, passed away at Winchester Hospital on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.

Frank was born in Medford on March 7, 1943 to the late Frank J. & Margaret (Steele) Sampson. He was raised in Medford, graduated from Medford High School and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. Mr. Sampson worked as an engineer for the New England Telephone Company retiring with Verizon after a career of 40 years. He had been a resident of Melrose for over 45 years, where he coached baseball and football; was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Melrose; and was a member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem for many years, where he enjoyed boating and fishing. Frank was an avid golfer, was nicknamed “Bob the Builder” by his family because he was always working with his hands, and loved his grandchildren with all his heart.

Mr. Sampson was the beloved husband of Jane R. (Robinson) Sampson. He was the loving father of Ken Sampson and his wife Joanne of North Reading; Frankie Sampson and his wife Leslie of Pennsylvania; Randy Sampson and his wife Gina of New Jersey; and Kristi Palmisano and her husband Vinny of Georgetown. He was the proud grandfather of Kyle, Paige, Zachary, Angela, Ethan, Kayla, Claudia, Liam, Carmine and Anthony. He was the caring brother of Ann Cullerton of Westford and the late John Sampson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St. Melrose on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home on Saturday, February 25 at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
