WAKEFIELD – The Cruiser Club Boston and Honey Dew Donuts are sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit PAWS homeless animals on Sunday, September 20 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. PAWS Wakefield volunteers and Cruiser Club members will be on hand in the Honey Dew parking lot at 142 Lowell St., Wakefield, to collect donations.

In addition, the owner of Honey Dew, John Kennedy, has offered:

• A $5 gift card to anyone donating $30 or more to PAWS, plus

• 10% off your order if you are a military veteran, police officer, firefighter or teacher.

PAWS does amazing work rescuing and caring for cats in Wakefield, Reading, Lynnfield, Stoneham, Melrose and surrounding towns.

As an example, PAWS responded to a call this past weekend about cats locked in an empty, hot, flea-infested apartment. According to neighbors, the owners were evicted and abandoned the cats. Left on their own for almost a week, the two mom cats and eight kittens were only discovered when someone heard the kittens crying.

All of the cats are undernourished, dehydrated and anemic due to the fleas. Two kittens, Arabella and Salima were so weak from the loss of blood that they needed emergency blood transfusions. In addition, Arabella’s eyes were so badly infected that they ruptured. Once she is strong enough, Arabella will need surgery to remove both eyes.

Considering the medical needs of these felines, PAWS will spend thousands of dollars to provide the treatments, surgeries, vaccination and whatever else is necessary to return them to health and get them ready so that they can be adopted into loving, forever homes. Therefore, cash donations would be much appreciated. However, PAWS is also collecting donations of other items from their wish list, including kitten food, canned cat food, toys, etc.

PAWS is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization, registered with the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture. For more information about PAWS services, pets available for adoption, events, wish list and more, visit their website at www.pawswakefield.rescuegroups.org .

If you cannot join the fun at Honey Dew Donuts on Sunday, please consider donating directly to PAWS at https://pawswakefield.rescuegroups.org/info/donate. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
