WAKEFIELD — Genevieve (Jehu) Hughson, 83, known as Jean to family and friends, joined her loving husband in eternal life on Friday, Nov. 6, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Somerville on June 11, 1932, she was the daughter the late David and Genevieve (Miller) Jehu.

Jean moved from Somerville to North Reading when she was 8 years old where she enjoyed a fun, free-spirited childhood. During her high school years she was named Miss North Reading. She met her future husband, Bill, when she was 14 years old, and married him at 21.

Throughout her married years, Jean raised six children and loved to square dance and create wonderful stained glass pieces. In later years she
enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s athletic events, plays and concerts.

Jean also enjoyed drives back and forth to Florida with her husband during their retirement years. With her quick wit, Jean would always have something to say that would make people laugh with an unexpected jest.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Bill Hughson and her sisters Lorraine Zwicker and Marguerite Brooks.

Jean is survived by her children: Joan Hughson of Vienna, Va., Patricia Doren and her husband Thomas of Wakefield, Thomas Hughson and his wife Sherry of Boscawen, N.H., Diana Mirasolo and her husband Christopher of Wakefield, Richard Hughson and his wife Helen of Groton and James Hughson of Billerica. Jean also leaves behind a loving sister Lera Robinson. She was the loving grandmother of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o’clock. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at VA National Cemetery in Bourne.
