LYNNFIELD — Two members of the Lynnfield High girls’ basketball team received post-season honors from the Cape Ann League coaches. Bella George led the way as she was named to the CAL First-Team All-Stars.

The junior point guard led the team in scoring averaging 11.6 points per game. She averaged five rebounds, three steals and two assists per game.

“She was awesome,” said Pioneers head coach Sue Breen.” She is a fierce competitor, great on defense and set up our offense.”

This is George’s first year making the All-Star team.

LUCY CLEARY 2021-22 CAL Second Team All-Star

Lucy Cleary made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars. She was the team’s top rebounder averaging nine boards per game. The senior forward scored 89 total points, averaged three assists and two steals per game.

“She was our stopper on defense,” stated Breen. “She missed all of last year due to injury but she had a good year this year.”

It was also Cleary’s first-ever All-Star selection.

On Feb. 3, the team had its awards banquet. Senior co-captain, Abby Adamo took home the Coaches and Scholar Athlete Awards. She scored 98 points in 14 games and led the team in 3-pointers with 16. She also averaged six rebounds per game.

Cleary received the Pioneer Award.

Maggie Ozanian, a junior forward, got the Unsung Hero Award. She scored 86 points and averaged seven rebounds per game which was second behind Cleary.

Lynnfield will lose Cleary and Adamo to graduation as they are slated to return eight players next winter.

“I was so grateful to get to coach Lucy and Abby,” said Breen, who teaches at Lynnfield High. “They set the tone for the team and I am disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to coach them all four years.”

The Pioneers just missed qualifying for the Division 3 state tournament as they went 8-10 overall. In the new MIAA power rankings system they finished one slot out of qualifying.

In the CAL, they went 4-9 as they came in fifth place in the CAL Kinney Division.
