Worked in finance, avid runner

NASHUA, N.H. — Gerald “Gerry” F. Olsen, 95, passed away on Nov. 24, 2023 in Nashua, New Hampshire just shy of his 96th birthday.

He was born in South Boston on Dec. 4, 1927, and was the son of Anna (Donahue) Olsen and Henry Charles Olsen, both of South Boston. Two brothers pre-deceased him: Henry and John Olsen.

Gerry was a graduate of Boston College High School and after serving in the military, returned to attend Boston College where he received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He later received his MBA from Boston University and went on to have an illustrious career in finance at Raytheon and Digital Equipment Corporation until his retirement in 1992.

Gerry was an avid runner, having completed Boston Marathons, several other marathons and local races during his life. He could often be seen running throughout Lynnfield, regardless of the weather. He made Lynnfield his home and it is here that he and his wife Ruth raised their family before moving to Nashua, New Hampshire in 1990.

Gerry is pre-deceased by his wife, Ruth (Russo) Olsen, and three sons: William C., Stephen H. and Robert F. Olsen. He is survived by his three daughters: Christine (Olsen) Cormier; Paula Olsen Perez and her husband, Michael Elvis Perez; and Patricia Olsen-Goldberg and her husband, Jack Goldberg.

He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren with whom he had very special relationships: Elizabeth Anderson and her husband, Sean; Robert Olsen and his wife, Kim; Danielle Bouchard and her husband, Ben; Christopher Perez and his fiancée, Destinee Kneeland; Kiley Olsen; Samantha Cormier; Stephen Perez; Leah Perez; Charles Goldberg and Sam Goldberg. He also leaves behind five great-children: Skylar, Parker, Eleanor, Brooklyn and Evan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerald’s name to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02115.

Funeral services will be private. The McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield is handling the arrangements.
