QUINCY — The girls’ co-op hockey team lost a hard-fought game to Quincy/North Quincy by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night.

The team is comprised of players from Peabody, Lynnfield and North Reading and skates for the host team, the Peabody Tanners. Their home ice is the McVann-O’Keefe Memorial Rink on Lowell Street in Peabody.

“The Quincy game was a tough one – we were winning 1-0 until 6:42 left in the third,” commented first-year head coach Michelle Roach.

“The team worked really hard and dominated the play for the first two periods. Unfortunately, a goal called back and five penalties hurt us in the third,” she said.

Co-captains Elise Murphy and Caroline Buckley, both Lynnfield juniors, each scored a goal against QNQ in the 3-2 loss.

North Reading’s Cassie Mirasolo, a sophomore, earned the assist on Buckley’s goal.

“Freshman Jessica Robert continues to play strong and help power our offense,” the coach said of the North Reading newcomer.

“Abby Buckley has played outstanding in net – against Winthrop she had 33 saves and against Quincy she had 21 saves,” Roach said. Just a freshman, Buckley hails from Lynnfield and is one of the 13 players from LHS on the roster.

“Each of our last three games, two of which were tough league games, have been decided by one goal. We’ve been playing well. We have to continue to work hard together and play three consistent periods of hockey. Each practice, each game, we’re improving and getting stronger,” Roach added.

The team narrowly lost to Winthrop by a score of 2-1 on Jan. 6 and lost to Medford, also by a 2-1 margin, on Jan. 2. The Tanners are currently 3-6-0 overall, having defeated Oakmont (6-2), Marblehead (5-2) and Shawsheen (5-1) to date. They compete in Division 1 of the Northeastern Hockey League where they have a record of 1-4-0.

Upcoming games

Roach said her team is looking forward to a few days off before facing off against Beverly on Saturday, Jan. 16. The game will be played at Endicott College in Beverly at 4 p.m.

They’ll continue to play on the road at Shawsheen Tech in Billerica on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. and at Marblehead on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10:30 a.m. when they’ll skate at the Salem State University rink.
