PEABODY — The Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading girls’ co-op hockey team beat Bishop Fenwick on Presidents’ Day in the girls’ division of the Carlin Cup. The final score was 4-0.

“We had 39 shots on net and Abby Buckley made 19 saves in the shut out. Jess Robert and Erin Hunter led the charge,” commented their elated head coach, Michelle Roach.

The Tanners opened the scoring in the second period when Sammie Mirasolo lit the lamp off a pass from co-captain Caroline Buckley at 40.6 seconds.

In the third period, Jess Robert extended the lead to 2-0 with her unassisted goal at 11:15.

Kaydee Purcell scored goal number 3 for the Tanners with an assist from Cassie Mirasolo at 6:18.

Co-captain Elise Murphy tallied the final goal with assists from both Carolyn Garofoli and Jess Robert with 52.6 seconds left in regulation.

Last chance for tourney berth tonight

“We play Melrose on Wednesday night at home and are looking for one point to qualify for the tournament,” Roach added. That equates to at least a tie against the Red Raiders. A win would earn the team two more points. If they succeed, it will be the first post-season berth in the history of the co-op program.

The MIAA will post tournament seedings later this week, after press time, at www.miaa.net.
