SOUTH HAMILTON — The Wakefield Memorial High girls’ basketball team had a little bit of a travel to get to South Hamilton to compete in first round of the second annual General Patton Tournament at Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School.

Hingham had an even longer journey to get there and the Harborwomen were not about to be denied of a victory as they handed the Warriors a 56-36 defeat.

Wakefield (11-8) overall will face host Hamilton-Wenham in the consolation game tonight at 5 p.m. at H-W. Hingham will square off against Beverly in the championship game at 6:30 p.m.

As for last night, Hingham pressed Wakefield into several turnovers and capitalized on the offensive end. The Harborwomen opened an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and a 34-14 advantage at halftime. Hingham led 48-21 after three quarters and cruised to the triumph. The Warriors did outscore Hingham, 15-8, in the fourth period but the outcome had pretty much been determined.

“They pressed the ball and forced some turnovers,” said Coach Meghan O’Connell. “The kids worked hard. Hingham is a good team and they outplayed us. They’re a strong team.”

Senior forward Daniella Iannuzzi was Wakefield’s leading scorer with 12 points. She was the only Warrior player to crack double digits in the scoring department. One of Iannuzzi’s baskets was a three-point shot.

Junior forward Gabby Joly, senior guard Mackenzie Collins and freshman guard Olivia Dziadyk each scored four points.

Amand Boulter, a senior guard, was held to three points as she canned one trey.

Senior guard Nicole Galli, junior forward Julia Derendal, freshman guard Hannah Dziadyk and senior forward Julia Filippone each netted two points.

Alyssa Rossino, a senior guard, scored one point for the Warriors.

Senior forward Jill Raso, junior guard Grace Hurley, junior guard Mia Joyce, sophomore forward Emma Butler and sophomore Mackenzie Story all played in the contest as well and worked hard.

Abby Landry led Hingham with 13 points, while the Blasetti sisters, Sydney and Haley, each netted 11 points.

The Warriors hope to take charge against the host Generals tonight in the consolation head into the state tournament with a victory in regular season finale.
