WAKEFIELD — Due to a possible scheduling conflict on Saturday, the day of the state tournament game for the Wakefield Memorial High girls’ basketball team has been changed from Saturday night to Friday night at the Charbonneau Field House.
The Warriors will host the Tewksbury/Wilmington winner in quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. on March 3.
The schedule change came about due to the 2017 Pedro’s Judo Challenge being held on Saturday during the day at the Charbonneau Field Hosue. Brendan Kent, K-12 Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness for the Wakefield Public Schools, expressed concern about having both events the day and the turnaround that would be needed after the judo to get the field house ready for a girls’ hoop game that night.
Wakefield (16-4) is seeded second in Div. 2 North and drew a first round bye. Tewksbury (12-8) and Wilmington (11-9) are seeded seventh and 10th and will play a first round game tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Tewksbury High School.
