NORTH READING – Last Friday afternoon, the North Reading High girls lacrosse team fell to Lynnfield, 13-1, at home. The Hornets entered this game shorthanded as four of their starters were away on vacation.

“Their basics are strong and they have a very effective defensive unit,” said Hornets head coach Sam Whitney, about the Pioneers who improved to 4-1.

Lynnfield took control of this game in the opening half as they led, 9-1, at the break.

Casey McAulisse had the lone Hornet goal and it was unassisted.

North Reading goalie, Kylie Ford, made 10 saves as her record fell to 2-4.

The Hornets fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Cape Ann League.

On April 12th, the news was much better as the Hornets defeated host Georgetown, 19-13. North reading led, 8-7, at the half as they outscored the Royals, 11-6, in the second half.

“We were connecting very well in transition,” pointed out Whitney. “We also had several players score.”

Erin Hunter led the way with five goals while Kiley McCarthy scored four times. Mary Madden recorded a hat trick. McKayla Murphy and McAulisse both found the back of the Royal net twice.

Chloe Copelas, Lily Albano and Gabby Lanzaro all scored once.

Ford made 15 stops in that game.

The game at Swampscott, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed and will be now played on May 18th at 6 pm.

Next Tuesday afternoon at 3:45, the Hornets will visit a strong Newburyport team who is in first place in the CAL Kinney division.
