THE LHS girls’ lacrosse team drew the No. 24 seed in the Div. 4 bracket and will travel to No. 9 Mount Greylock on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for a first round matchup. Lynnfield will certainly need to leave school early for that one as it will be about a 3-hour drive to Mount Greylock in Williamstown, one of the western-most high schools in the state of Massachusetts. The winner will play the winner of No. 8 Mashpee vs. No. 25 Seekonk in the Sweet 16 date and time to be announced. (File Photo)

LYNNFIELD — Late last week, the seedings came out for the MIAA Division 4 girls’ lacrosse state tournament.

The Lynnfield High team received the 24th seed and will be facing host Mount Greylock on June 8 at 4:30 pm. in the Round of 32 game.

The Pioneers ended the states with a record of 5-13 while 9th-seeded Mount Greylock heads into the game with a mark of 16-3.

Lynnfield’s first-year head coach Christina Serra is hoping that the tough Cape Ann League schedule the team played will prepare her squad for the states.

“I am hoping that the teams we play in our league will help us,” said Serra, who is still learning about the Mounties.

Mount Greylock is way out in the western part of the state in Williamstown as the Pioneers will have a likely three-hour ride to get there. Depending on the route, it is anywhere from 146 to 170 miles away. The school is only five miles away from the New York State border and 40 miles from Albany.

“Going that far is definitely going to be a disadvantage for us,” admitted Serra. “The girls will bring snacks with them and hopefully, have some fun on the bus.”

The Mounties play in the Berkshire County League.

If Lynnfield can win that game, they would play either No. 25 Seekonk or No. 8 Mashpee in the Round of 16 later this week, date and time to be announced.
