WAKEFIELD — The Middlesex League’s girls’ soccer coaches met recently to select the All-Star teams.

The WMHS girls’ soccer team, who finished third in the Freedom Division with a 5-8-3 record and a 5-9-3 overall record, had three All-Stars selected as senior captain Caroline Hurley and juniors Emma Lambiaso and Abby Mondello all made the list.

Hurley had another terrific season in the midfield for the Warriors. Mondello was a dynamic defender all year. Lambiaso had a great season during her first year as the starting goalie, accounting for four shutouts. She also had four games in which she allowed just one goal.

Freedom champion Stoneham (13-1-3) led the division with six All-Stars. Second-place Wilmington (8-7-2) was next with four selections. Wakefield followed up with three while Burlington (2-14) and Melrose (4-11-1) each had two.

In the Liberty Division, Winchester (16-1), who went on to win the Div. 2 state championship, had six All-Stars named. Belmont (10-4-2), who got second in the Liberty, had five All-Stars. Arlington (7-5-5) and Woburn (9-4-4) were next with three selections each. Lexington (8-5-4) had two while Reading (4-8-3) had one.

In a new All-Star format this year, an All-Conference team was selected. Winchester and Stoneham had the most players named to the team with three each, to make up a combined six of the 11. Stoneham’s three were the only representative’s from the Freedom Division on the All-Conference team.
