Girls tennis continues amazing undefeated season, 12–0

Plunder Vikings 5-0

NORTH READING — The Lady Hornets opened their busy week with their sixth match sweep of the season with a 5-0 victory over the Triton Vikings on May 4th.

Sophomore Marissa Galuppo coasted at first singles 6-0, 6-1. At second singles sophomore Aly Budny had an extremely competitive three set match. Budny managed to pull out the win 6-7(5), 7-5, 6-2 to maintain her undefeated record. Freshman Tia Campagna kept her undefeated season alive at third singles winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Senior captains Meg Carlo and Kaylin Scher returned to their usual position at first doubles and took care of business 6-3, 6-2. At second doubles senior captain Jenny Crotty and freshman Meghan Griffin teamed up and won easily 6-2, 6-2.

Trample Tigers, 5-0

The Hornets returned to the court on May 6th and swept yet another match, trampling the Ipswich Tigers 5-0. Senior captain Meg Carlo on the victory, “This was another match where the whole team truly rose to the challenge.”

At first singles Marissa Galuppo again won easily in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. Aly Budny dispatched her opponent at second singles in two sets 6-3, 6-3. At third singles Tia Campagna continues to impress in her freshman season winning 6-1, 6-2.

At second doubles Meg Carlo and Kaylin Scher didn’t drop a single game and were never challenged winning 6-0, 6-0. At second doubles Jenny Crotty and Meghan Griffin had to battle their way back from losing the second set. They pulled out a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win to stay undefeated on the season.

Sack Sachems, 4-1

The Hornets continued to roll and improved their record to an exceptional 12-0 with their 4-1 victory over the Pentucket Sachems on May 6th. With their match victories Aly Budny, Tia Campagna and the second doubles team of Jenny Crotty and Meghan Griffin remain unbeaten.

At first singles Marissa Galuppo suffered the Hornets lone defeat falling in straight sets 0-6, 0-6. Budny took care of business at second singles 6-2, 6-0. Campagna dropped her opponent in straight sets at third singles 6-1, 6-3.

At first doubles Meg Carlo and Kaylin Scher won again 6-3, 6-2. Crotty and Griffin had a three set battle at second doubles. After losing the first set 2-6 they came back and took the final two sets 6-0, 6-3.
