WAKEFIELD — The Warrior girls’ tennis team is off and rolling as it posted its second straight win and third victory of the season as it blanked Stoneham by a 5-0 tally yesterday afternoon at the Dobbins Courts.

It was the second straight shutout for the Warriors as they are now 3-1 on the season. It was also Wakefield’s second straight contest at the Dobbins Courts.

Although the Warriors got all five points, the second doubles match was the toughest of the day for Wakefield as the contest went three sets. Juniors Mollybeth Whitson and Darcy Drago faced the Spartans tandem and won the first set, 6-1, but lost the second set, 5-7. Whitson and Drago recovered and took the final set, 7-5.

At first singles, senior captain Meghan Chapman defeated Olivia Gaughan, 6-0, 6-1.

Sarah Stumpf, a junior, prevailed at second singles against Stoneham’s Reiko Laski. Stumpf cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.

At third singles, senior captain Abby Murphy took on Sandra Haddad and posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Grace Hurley, a junior, and Abby Chapman, a sophomore, played at first doubles for the Warriors. They defeated the Stoneham duo, 6-1, 6-2.

Wakefield will hope to continue its winning ways on the road when it takes on Wilmington tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Textron Tennis Courts.
