NORTH READING — With their 5-0 match victory over the Hamilton–Wenham Generals on May 18 the Lady Hornets clinched the Cape Ann League Kinney division crown and finished the season with an outstanding record of 14–1. It is the first CAL title in girl’s tennis since 1974. It is also North Reading’s eighth match sweep of the season.

The accomplishment was not lost on Head Coach Matt Finn. “I am so proud of this team. We set very lofty goals for this team, and they have met every single one. I’m really lucky to have a team that is so focused on being the best team possible. The senior captains have done an amazing job of setting the tone for what is expected, and they deserve much of the credit for everyone’s success.”

He went on to say, “It’s great to be a part of a team doing something that has not been done in more than 40 years. I hope these girls fully understand just how great of an accomplishment this is. The CAL is a very competitive league, we had to battle some really competitive teams for this title.”
