BOSTON — On Jan. 24, the North Reading High girls’ track and field team had a regular season meet against Newburyport at the Track at New Balance. The Hornets took their third regular season victory putting them at 3-0 this season. There were stellar performances across the board with North Reading scoring points in almost every event. With only Triton (1-2) left on the schedule for Jan. 31(after press time) the Hornets are on their way to their second straight Cape Ann League Championship.
Leading the team to victory was captain Annalise Butler who ran an unprecedented triple of the One Mile Run, 1000 Meter Run, and Two Mile Run in which she took 1st, 2nd, 2nd in those events respectively. The feat was performed over the course of only 2 hours, which made it even more impressive. Her 11 points were key to the Hornets’ success as the Clippers have an impressive distance squad that has swept all other teams in the league. Butler was certainly in a league of her own that night.
North Reading swept the 55 Meter Dash with Kayla Budny (7.60) in first, Ava McIntyre (7.62) second and Georgia Robarts (7.86) third. Madelyn Arian Aitchison was not far behind with a time of 8.14. In the 300 meter dash, North Reading ran great races with Tiara Lamont going 45.39, Julia DeAngelis 46.68 and Reilly Tassinari 46.84. Jenna Mahoney (47.27), Isabelle Lazure (48.37), and Alexandra Sfikas (49.46) all ran great times as well.
In the 55 Meter Hurdles, Madison Vant won with a time of 9.11. Hayden MacLellan (9.94), Katie Zimmerman (10.37) and Ellie Heintz (10.38) were not far behind.
Giuliana Ligor (1:42.51) won the 600 Meter Run. Despina Sfikas (2:02.39), Bella Fischer (2:02.56), Lindsey Rosenthal (2:08.45) and Madeline Forristall (2:12.03) all ran great races as well.
Annalise Butler got second in the 1000 Meter Run with a time of 3:18.96. Quinlan Kelly (3:35.38), Eva Hanegraaff (3.59.40) and Ellie Moberg (4:30.00) ran well in this event also.
Butler also won the One Mile Run with a time of 5:21.04. Madeline Lambert (7:02.31) and Vasiliki Kouiroukidis (7:36.31) ran well in this event.
North Reading got second and third in the Two Mile Run with Butler getting a time of 13:01.94 and Ava Collins getting 13:20.52. Callie MacLellan (13:58.81) was not far behind.
Ligor won the High Jump, clearing 5’02”. Abigail Lilley (4’08”), Tiara Lamont (4’08”), and Callie MacLellan (4’08”) also had impressive results in this event.
In the Long Jump, North Reading took first and second place. Ava McIntyre got first place with her jump of 16’ 10.00” and Georgia Robarts got second with a jump of 16’ 05.75”. Kayla Budny (15’ 05.5) and Katie Zimmerman (15’ 04.25”) had very impressive jumps as well.
Kayla Budny won the Triple Jump with a distance of 35’ even. Georgia Robarts got second place with her jump of 33’ 0.5”.
North Reading also got first and second in Shot Put with Madison Vant getting first with a throw of 29’ 2” and Sabrina Mini got second with a throw of 26’ 6”. Abigail Lilley (25’ 02.5”), and Miriana Bornstein (19’ 11”) threw well in this event as well.
To end the meet were the relays. North Reading’s 4×200 Meter Relay team made up of Ava McIntyre (leg 1), Madison Vant (leg 2), Kayla Budny (leg 3) and Giuliana Ligor (anchor) won the event with a time of 1:48.21.
The 4×400 meter relay team made up of Tiara Lamont (leg 1), Julia DeAngelis (leg 2), Marisa Montana (leg 3), and Madelyn Arian Aitchison were bested by an impressive Clipper relay but ran a strong time of time of 4:25.91.
