BOSTON — On Feb. 6, the Lynnfield High girls’ indoor track and field team competed in the Cape Ann League team meet at The Track at New Balance in Brighton.

In this meet, the top three finishers medal while the top six receive points.

Lynnfield finished with five points to come in 9th place out of 10 schools. North Reading came in first with 106 while Newburyport was second at 73.

“You have to qualify to compete in this met and we had more girls participate than we did last year,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Adam Dell’Aria.

The 4×800 relay team of Lauren Mattia, Gabby Bottaro, Kaila George and Caitlin Buoniconti captured 4th place with a time of 11:21.

The other point came by Viola Wertz as the senior came in 6th in the two mile with a time of 13:30.

Lynnfield had three 7th-place finishes. Bottaro had a time of 6:00 in the mile while Buoniconti had a time of 3:30 in the 1000 meters.

The 4×400 relay team of Emma Greenleaf, Aislin McCormack, Libby Considine and Olivia Goguen also placed 7th with a time of 4:47.86.

The next event for the Pioneers will be on Feb. 14 as they compete in the Division 5 State Meet. That meet will take place at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston and will start at 4:30 p.m.

In the regular season, the Pioneers finished in 3rd place in the Cape Ann League Baker Division going 2-2 overall.
