Many runners turn in their best times

NASHUA, N.H. — Even though it was the school vacation week and despite the cold weather, the Warrior girls’ outdoor track team competed in the Nashua North Invitational Meet on Saturday at Nashua North High School.

Although the conditions weren’t ideal, the Wakefield girls had some great performances on Saturday.

Ana Lucas, a junior, made it to the finals in the 100 meter dash placing fourth with a personal best FAT time of 13.48 seconds which would translate into a 13.08 seconds hand timed. She looked really strong.

Ava Vaughn, a sophomore, was 18th with a 14.3 and Emily Pudvah, a freshman, was 25th with a time of 14.9 seconds.

Vaughn, Lillian Jones, and Sarah Labiad ran the 200 meter dash. They ran times of 29.9 seconds, 30.4 seconds, and 31.3 seconds.

Allee Purcell, a junior, was fourth in the 400 meter with a FAT time of 62.15 seconds. This would have translated into a 61.75 hand timed which is her best this season.

Gillian Russell, a junior, Isabella Kehoe, a sophomore, and Yvonne Lucas, a junior, ran the mile. Russell ran a 5:54 which is her best time of the season. Kehoe ran a 5:59 which is her personal best. Lucas was just off her PR with a 6:08. All three girls ran a very good race.

Freshman Retta Carroll ran the freshman-sophomore mile. She looked fantastic. Carroll placed 10th out of 29 athletes running a 6:12. She shattered her personal best by 20 seconds. She has a great future in track.

Jordan Stackhouse, a senior, looked really strong in the two mile getting a personal best of 12:13.

Senior captain Christina Freni, senior Theresa Fallon, and sophomore Michelle Maffe competed in the 100 hurdles. Freni and Fallon made it to the finals both running their personal bests.

Senior captain Abby Harrington, Jones, and Maffe ran the 300 hurdles. Harrington was fifth with a time of 50.04 seconds, Jones was 14th with a time of 54.72 seconds, and Maffe was 25th with a time of 60.9 seconds.

The 4×100 relay was sixth clocked in at 54.9 seconds. Purcell, Harrington, Pudvah, and Ana Lucas were on that team.

Olivia Fetherston, a freshman,and Brigid Scanlon, a senior captain, were fifth and 11th in the high jump as they cleared  4’10” and 4’7”.

Fetherston and sophomore Caroline Herzog competed in the long jump. Fetherston jumped a 13’2” for her first time ever competing in the event and Herzog jumped 11’9”.

Harrington made it to the finals in the triple jump with a 31’8” placing sixth. Also competing were Fallon and Herzog.

Samantha Nimblett, a junior, was 14th in the shot with a 26’4”. Eadeen Beck, a sophomore, fouled but had three good throws distance wise.

Alex Rollins, a senior captain, had a great day. She was third in the discus with a personal best throw of 85’0”. She also made it to the finals in the javelin with a distance of 87’9” placing sixth.

Rachel Cook was 23rd in the javelin with a throw 64’3”.

“We are now going to be working hard to prepare for our home meet against Melrose on Tuesday,” said Coach Karen Barrett.

The Warriors are scheduled to host the Red Raiders tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting, at the Shaun Beasley Track and Field facility.
