Beck medals with second place showing in shot put

NASHUA, N.H. — The Warriors on the girls’ track team competed north of the Massachusetts border as they took part in the 11th annual Nashua North Invitational Meet which was held on Saturday at Nashua North High School and did the state proud with a number of good performances.

The top performer of the meet was Eadeen Beck, a freshman. Beck came in second in the shot put with personal best throw of 32-10 1/2. She was the only Warrior to medal.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Abby Harrington, a junior, grabbed fourth place overall in a time of 49.87 seconds. The junior also finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 14-9.

Allee Purcell, a sophomore, turned in a fifth place performance in the 400 meter run as she clocked in at 61.72 seconds. Purcell also took sixth place in the high jump in a four-way tie as she cleared 4-7.

Wakefield earned a sixth place finish in the 4×100 relay with a time of 53.96 seconds. The team included sophomore Ana Lucas, senior Avery Parece, sophomore Hailey Lovell and senior Sam Ross.

Julia Derendal, a senior, secured an eighth place finish in the discus with a heave of 77-5.

In the 100 meter hurdles finals, junior Christina Freni captured eighth overall in a time of 18.87 seconds and junior Marissa Hoffman finished 10th as she ran a time of 18.91 seconds. Freni ran a personal best.

Hoffman was 12th at 19.19 seconds in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries, Freni was 15th in a time of 19.73 seconds and Parece finished 19th at 19.95 seconds. The top 16 moved on to the finals.

In the javelin, Alex Rollins, a junior, earned a ninth place finish with a throw of 85-4.

Also competing in the shot put was sophomore Samantha Nimblett. Nimblett claimed 10th place with a throw of 27-1 1/4.

Hoffman also competed in the 300 hurdles and finished in 15th place as she clocked in 58.84 seconds.

In the 100 meter dash preliminaries, Sam Ross, a senior, came in 24th with a time of 13.93 seconds.

Cassie Lucci, a junior, posted a time of 2:36.13 in the 800 meter run and finished 12th overall.

In the mile, the Warriors had three competitors. Freshman Amanda Westlake came in 10th at 5:51.04, junior Jordan Stackhouse finished 16th at 5:58.97 and senior Meaghan Hudson secured 19th in a time of 6:26.30.

Isabella Kehoe, a freshman, and Kaia Carioli, a sophomore, ran the Freshman-Sophomore mile and claimed 13th and 23rd, respectively, with times of 6:07.59 and 6:29.32. Kehoe’s time was a personal best.

In the two mile, Wakefield had three entries. Sophomore Gillian Russell came in 18th at 13:11.31, senior Sara Custodio finished 20th at 13:39.14 and senior Reilly McNamara came in 22nd in a time of 14:11.00.

Also competing in the long jump were Kaylin Stewart, a senior, and Freni. Stewart was 16th with a distance of 13-7 and Freni finished in 22nd place with a jump of 12-1.

Ross, Parece and Theresa Fallon, a junior, competed in the triple jump. Ross took 11th with distance of 30-6 1/2, Parece finished 19th at 28-8 1/2, and Fallon leaped 26-11 for 25th place.

In the discus, Rollins and Beck finished in 17th and 24th place with throws of 64-11 and 51-11.

Derendal and Rylee Parent, a sophomore, also competed in the javelin and finished 12th and 19th with distances of 82-4 and 72-9.

The Warriors are scheduled to run against Melrose in a Middlesex League Freedom division meet on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Pine Banks Track. The meet was originally scheduled for today, but has been postponed due to rain.
