WAKEFIELD — On Thursday afternoon, graffiti said to be a swastika was discovered in a bathroom at the Galvin Middle School.

Dr. Kim Smith, superintendent of the Wakefield Public Schools, said:

“It was reported yesterday that discriminatory graffiti was found in one of the community bathrooms at the Galvin Middle School. This type of action is a disturbing violation of the core values of the Wakefield schools and community. The incident is currently under investigation by school officials and the Wakefield Police Department.

“All schools continue their proactive work in teaching respectful and caring citizenship, and maintain our resolute commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our community.”

Suveillance video is being reviewed, the Daily Item was told.

The symbol of hatred was reportedly found in a bathroom in a common area at the Galvin that can be accessed by the general public.
