WAKEFIELD — Harvey Lee Medler, 68, of Wakefield and formerly of Stoneham and Boston, died August 24 following complications from heart surgery.
Born and raised in Stoneham, he was the son of the late Carroll and Louise (Girard) Medler.
For many years, Harvey was employed by Amtrak as a lead service attendant on the Chicago route.
In his youth, he was a great swimmer and spent much of his time at the Stoneham MDC Pool. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Harvey excelled at crossword puzzles and playing cards, especially cribbage. He attended the Restoration Road Church.
He was the brother of Holly Howes and her husband Lloyd of Wakefield and the late Carroll Medler, Jr. He is also survived by his stepmother, Marilyn Medler of Framingham and nieces and nephews Jamie Getchell of NH, Pamela Henderson of FL, Wendy Davenport of VA and Jason, Jarrod and Jenalyn Howes of MA.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, August 29, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham.
