memorialgrave_webWAKEFIELD — American Legion Post 63 needs your help.

The post is asking for assistance in placing flags on the graves of veterans buried in the Forest Glade and Lakeside cemeteries.

The week before Memorial Day (May 25 this year) the American Legion Post members along with volunteers will place flags on the graves of over 2,000 veterans in Wakefield.

Similar to last year on Monday, May 18 members and volunteers will meet in front of the Chapel at the Lakeside Cemetery at 4 p.m. to decorate the graves.

Likewise members and volunteers will meet on Friday, May 22, at 4 p.m. at the veterans’ part of the Forest Glade Cemetery (front) to decorate the graves. In the past Post 63 has had the help of school children, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, as well as adult groups and local individual volunteers.

Post members hope those same volunteers and others will join in what has been a community service project for many and one that has provided a fulfilling sense of pride to honor veterans of all wars with the American Flags.

A screwdriver and a hammer are very useful in the placing of the flags. Anyone who has any questions or wants to let the Post know you are coming can contact either Tom Collins at 781-245-8215 or Bill Walsh at 781-245-4787.

Also please contact them if they have missed placing a flag at a loved one’s gravesite.

The Post looks forward to having many hands available to help out on May 18 at Lakeside and May 22 at Forest Glade.
