NORTH READING – The North Reading Police and Fire Departments are renewing their request for local residents to take a few minutes and shovel out fire hydrants near their homes.

If you have a fire hydrant in front of or near your house, the public safety departments ask you to ensure that it is cleared out. It takes only a few minutes to do and will save firefighters from having to search for and dig a hydrant out if they need it. According to the NRFD, a fire doubles in size every 30 seconds and delays in finding a water supply can have devastating consequences.
