 LYNNFIELD — Seven Lynnfield High girls’ lacrosse players received awards at the team’s awards-night banquet handed out by head coach Christian Serra.

The Coaches’ Award went to senior Hannah Gromko, while the Offensive MVP Award was given to sophomore Taylor Valiton.

Valiton was a Cape Ann League First-Team All-Star this season. It is her first post-season honor as she led the team in goals with 70. The midfielder also had 78 draw controls and six assists to finish with 76 points

The Defensive MVP Award went to senior co-captain Maddie Daigle, who also received the Lynnfield Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award and the Eastern Mass. Girls Lacrosse Association scholar athlete award.

Daigle, a defenseman, made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars this spring as she made the all-stars for the first time.

The Most Improved Player Award went to junior Casey Flynn, while the Assist Assassin Award was given to senior co-captain Chloe Considine.

The Turnover Terror award went to senior co-captain Kiera Mallett, while the Ground Ball Boss Award was handed to sophomore Clara Caufield.

Lynnfield lost at home, 8-5, to Monomoy in the first round of the Division 4 state tournament on June 5th. to end the year at 9-11.

In the CAL, they went 3-9 as they finished in fifth place in the Baker division.

“I feel that we had a successful year,” said Serra, who just finished her second year at the helm. “We made the states last year and, this year, got to play a home playoff game. I was proud of them.”

The Pioneers will be losing eight seniors to graduation, Along with Gronko, ,Daigle, Considine, and Mallett, they will also lose Charlotte Radulski (captain), Avery Bird, Isabella Mendese and Payton Munion.

“If was a privilege to work with this senior class,” said Serra. “They were short-changed having to miss their freshman year (COVID) and I am going to miss them all. It was a fun group to coach.”

Lynnfield is slated to return 11 veterans next spring but only three of them were starters this season.

“We are going to have a young team but there was growth with the junior varsity team and we will see about the eight-graders who will be freshman next year,” said Serra.

Taylor Valiton, Maddie Mastrangelo, and Casey Flynn, who played goalie, will spearhead the returning veterans next season. Mastrangelo will be the only 23-24 Senior who has played on the varsity team since her freshmen year.
