BOSTON — At the last regular season meet for the North Reading girls’ indoor track and field team the Hornets solidified their undefeated season in The Cape Ann League Kinney Division going 4-0. The girls worked hard all season over the last 10 weeks to gain this notable achievement with many girls qualifying for the Cape Ann League Open Championship and Division 4 State Championship and some will even continue their season up to the National Championship.
North Reading had an amazing meet this past Tuesday, beating Triton with a score of 78-22.
North Reading started the meet off strong by sweeping the 55 Meter Dash. Ava McIntyre won with a time of 7.53, Madison Vant got second with a time of 7.63, and Georgia Robarts got third with a time of 7.82.
In the 300 Meter Dash, North Reading got first and third. Giuliana Ligor got first with a time of 40.75, which is the second fastest time in school history and the fastest time run in the event in the CAL and Division state level. Marisa Montana got third with a time of 45.93. Madelyn Arian Atchinson (46.46), Jenna Mahoney (47.02), and Reilly Tassinari (48.57) were all right behind them, running impressive races as well.
In the 600 Meter Run, Alexandra Sfikas (1:58.44), Despina Sfikas (1:58.49), and Bella Fischer (1:59.74) all ran very well. Despite not scoring any points in the event, all three athletes hit personal best marks. Lindsey Rosenthal (2:12.03) and Madeline Forristall (2:21.28) ran admirably.
North Reading swept the 55 Meter Hurdles. Hayden MacLellan won with a time of 9.63, Ellie Heintz came in second with a time of 10.27 and Giuliana Auciello got third with a time of 10:54. Katie Zimmerman was not far behind them with a time of 10.72.
In the 1000 Meter Run, Quinlan Kelly got second place with a time of 3:32.36 and Karleigh Budny got third with a time of 3:34.70. Eva Hanegraaff (3:53.77) and Ellie Moberg (4:29.17) also competed well in this event.
North Reading got first and second in the One Mile Run with Annalise Butler getting a time of 5:31.75 and Callie MacLellan getting a time of 6:04.07. Madeline Lambert also ran impressively, getting a time of 7:06.90.
North Reading got first and third in the Two Mile Run with Ava Collins getting a time of 13:15.12 and Vasiliki Kouiroukidis getting a time of 15:41.50.
In the field events, North Reading swept the High Jump. Ligor got first place with a jump that cleared 5’. Abigail Lilley cleared 4’10” getting her second place and Tiara Lamont cleared 4’08” which got her third. There was also an admirable performance from Giuliana Auciello who cleared 4’8”.
North Reading swept the Long Jump with Madison Vant getting first place with a jump of 17’4.25”, Ava McIntyre getting second with her jump of 16’8.25” and Georgia Robarts getting third with her jump of 16’ 1.75”. Katie Zimmerman had an impressive jump, leaping 15’ 9.75”.
North Reading got first and second in Triple Jump with Madison Vant jumping 34’ 8.5” and Georgia Robarts jumping 34’.5”.
In Shot Put, North Reading placed first and second. Abigail Lilley got first with a throw of 27’ 9.5” and Sabrina Mini got second with a throw of 26’ 7.5”. Abigail Meier (19’ 5.5”) and Miriana Bornstein (20’ 1”) did well in this event also.
The meet ended with the 4 by 200 Meter Relay and 4 by 400 Meter Relay. North Reading won both. The 4×2 team made up of Georgia Robarts (leg one), Ava McIntyre (leg 2), Kayla Budny (leg 3) and Giuliana Ligor (anchor) won the event with a time of 1:47.68. The 4x 4 team made up of Tiara Lamont (leg 1), Julia DeAngelis (leg 2), Marisa Montana (leg 3), and Madelin Arian Aitchison (anchor) won the event with a time of 4:28.75.
