NORTH READING — The North Reading High softball team improved to 3-0 on Monday afternoon as they hammered host Pentucket, 13-1, on a mild, sunny day up in West Newbury.

Pitcher Keely Hannon improved to 3-0 in the circle going all seven innings. She gave up five hits, two walks and struck out 10 Sachem batters.

The Hornet offense had 12 hits with two multiple hitters. Mia Vittozzi was 2 for 4 with two runs scored while Kristen Galvin went 2 for 3 with one run scored.

Eight Hornets had at least one hit overall.

“I liked seeing the balance we had in our hitting,” said Hornets head coach Nicole Zimmerman. “All 15 girls got to play and they all contributed.”

Julia Kelly made a nice catch in left field to end the game.

North Reading’s scoring was spread out as they plated three runs in the top of the second, third, fourth and seventh innings.

On April 7, the Hornets defeated guest Triton by a final of 10-3.

Again, the scoring was spread out as they scored three times in the bottom of the first, fourth and sixth innings. They had a season-high 16 hits led by the Reilly twins who combined to go 7 for 8.

“They are hard-working, determined players,” pointed out Zimmerman, about the sophomores.

Caitlyn Reilly was a perfect 4 for 4 while Olivia went 3 for 4.

Junior co-captain, Alyssa Cassarino, went 3 for 4 at the dish while Galvin and Vittozzi were both 2 for 4 as the Hornets had five multiple hitters overall.

Hannon went all seven innings giving up three earned runs. She allowed five hits, two walks and she fanned nine Viking hitters.

This Saturday morning at 10 a.m., the Hornets will visit cross-town rival Reading, in a non-league game. They will then play another non-league game on Apr. 19 as they welcome Gloucester. With it being April Vacation Week, the game will start at 11 a.m.
