NORTH READING — The 30th annual Horseshoe Grille Golf Tournament is in the books for 2015. The proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy Fund and Reading’s Burbank YMCA. This year’s event raised over $25,000 for the two charities.
2015 marks the 60th year the Lee family and the Horseshoe will be donating to the Jimmy Fund. The fundraising efforts started with Pat and Veronica Lee in 1955. Softball games, road races and now golf tournaments have been the cornerstones of the fundraising efforts. Through the years the Horseshoe has donated over $600,000 to the Jimmy Fund and other local projects such as KidSpot and Ipswich River Park.
The key reason for such strong results year after year is the strong support and generosity of the tournament’s many sponsors. Local businesses and families have been supporting this event for its entire 30 year history.
This year’s first place team consisted of: John Meaney, Brian Meaney, Chuck Cimalone and Dave Doherty. The second place team included Gerry Fitzgerald, Pauline Fitzgerald and Martin Fitzgerald. There was a tie for third: Sib Hashian, Bobby Lytle, Derek Lytle and Michael Antunas along with John Douglass, John Murphy, Ralph Stolecki and Bob MacDonald.
Individual winners for both men and ladies contests: longest drive, Rick Johnson and Chrissy Cerretani; Closest to the pin: Brian Meaney and Chrissy Cerretani; straightest drive: Bobby Lytle and Julie Gerraughty.
The Lee family and the Horseshoe extend their special thanks to all their employees and volunteers who made the tournament possible: Kathi Lee, Brian Lee, Kevin Brennan, Donna Anderson, Penni Mullaney, Maria Pimentel, Dennis Marasca, Leanne Batten, Amy McCarthy, Marlene LaCascia, Karen Hood, Lori Reinhart, Betsy Dussault, Chris Schaffer as well as Izzy, Julio and Victor.
And a special tribute to Veronica Lee for starting this tradition and attending 60 years’ worth of events.
