WAKEFIELD — In an exciting two game matchup, the Indians squeaked out close wins over the Pirates to capture the 2016 Softball Majors Championship in Little League.
The score was 11-9 in the decisive game played on Monday night at Mapleway Field. The Indians defeated the Pirates by a 17-4 tally on Sunday night at Mapleway to force the rubber game.
The Indians finished the season with a 15-6 record. The Pirates were the runner up with a very good 14-5-1 record.
The games featured excellent defense, strong pitching and timely hitting from both sides. Both teams showed great resilience and exhibited that “can-do” attitude.
Wakefield Little League would like to acknowledge both coaching staffs for a tremendous job of developing the playing skills of these fine young girls both on and off the field. Wakefield softball is looking bright for the future and Wakefield Little League is helping pave the way. Thanks to all involved.
