SALEM — North Reading resident Ray Jacques has accepted an academic/athletic offer to play for coach Bill O’Neil and the Salem State University Vikings hockey team in the fall of 2015.

The 6’1” 200 lb. defenseman finished this past season playing for the New York Apple Core of the highly competitive Eastern Junior Hockey League. Salem State University plays in the NCAA Division 3 / MASCAC Conference.

When Jacques takes the ice for the Vikings, he will join his cousin Alex Minter, a junior forward who already plays for Salem State.

Jacques attended Austin Prep but played hockey for the Salem Ice Dogs for three years and then for the Middlesex Black Bears out of the Governor’s Academy, an independent Junior A team. From there he went on to the New York Apple Core.

Ray is the son of Michelle and Raymond Jacques Sr., 3 Bishops Way. Ray Jacques Sr. is a former Peabody High School star who transferred to Matignon and went on to captain the University of Maine team. He is an investment advisor and his New England Schooner Company is located in Peabody.
