James-Diozzi-obit-webMELROSE — James L. Diozzi, 74, of Saugus, died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on March 30.

Jim was born and raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1958. He resided in Somerville, Malden and Medford for several years, and the past 37 years in Saugus. Jimmy worked and was very proud of being a plumbing and gas inspector for North Andover, Melrose and North Reading for 20 years before his retirement. He was a former member of the Woburn Knights of Columbus and enjoyed cars, good food, going for long drives with his wife Barbara and Elvis Presley music. Jimmy was a kind, generous, funny, playful jokester and his children and grandchildren were the most important part of his life.

Jim was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Doherty) Diozzi for 41 years. He was the loving father of Robert Diozzi and his wife Maureen of Natick, James Diozzi and his wife Susan, Joseph Diozzi and his wife Carrie and Jason Diozzi and his wife Natalie, all of Saugus. He was the caring brother of the late Robert Diozzi and his wife Hannah of Salem. He was the special cousin of Yvonne Tuck of Framingham and Carolyn Smith of Stoneham. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Thursday, April 2. Jim’s funeral will be held at the Gately Funeral Home on Friday, April 3 at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Blessing at Blessed Sacrament Church, 16 Summer St., Saugus at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston MA 02215.
