NEEDHAM — James Matthew McGourty, 70, a longtime Needham resident, formerly of Newton, Mashpee and Melrose, died Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born in Newton on July 14, 1948 he was the son of the late Francis and Jean (Adamo) McGourty.

James was born and raised in Newton and was a graduate of Newton South High School. He then went on to receive his bachelors degree in Accounting from Bentley College. Had worked as an accountant for C.N. Wood Company. James had been a longtime Needham resident and had also spent many years in Mashpee and spent a short time in Melrose. When his family was young, they enjoyed vacationing in Ogunquit, Maine. He was very handy and enjoyed yardwork and fixing things around the house. Above all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He was the husband of the late Carol Ann (Paulini) McGourty. He was the father of Michael J. McGourty and his wife Abbie of Wakefield and Megan L. Charrier and her husband Craig of Quincy. He was the brother of Walter McGourty and his wife Vanna of Mansfield and the late Francis McGourty. He was the grandfather of Jackson, Quinn, Daisy, Juliet and Delaney.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the mass at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield from 9-11 a.m. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
