Janet-Carroll-obit-webMELROSE — Janet R. (Poore) Carroll, a 53-year resident of Melrose, died peacefully on January 27 at the age of 80.

Janet was born in Reading on December 28, 1936 to Harvey and Rose Poore. She was raised in Reading and graduated from Reading High School.

Janet married George J. Carroll in 1956 and shortly after moved to Melrose where they raised their sons.

Janet owned Montvale Car Wash, Liberty Car Wash, and Boston St. Carwash. She also owned and operated Homestyle Laundry in Revere.

When she wasn’t busy working or raising her sons, Janet loved spending time at her house on Plum Island. In addition to Plum Island, Janet enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, Las Vegas, and Europe.

She will be greatly missed by her entire family.

She was the beloved wife of the late George J. Carroll Sr. She was the loving mother of George J. Carroll Jr. and his companion Linda Hogan of Melrose and Jeffrey Carroll and his wife Paula Farese of Lynnfield. She was the proud grandmother of George III, Colleen and Jennifer of Wilmington, and Anthony and Isabella of Lynnfield. She was the sister of Gloria Hovey and her husband Daniel of Portsmouth, NH, Lorraine Herman and her late husband George of South Lawrence and the late Dorothy Leslie of Tewksbury. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose, on Wednesday February 1, at 10 a.m. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Relatives & friends are respectfully invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Janet’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
