WAKEFIELD — Jerry Douglas Owen, 81, died January 17, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Olathe, Colorado on June 10, 1936 he was the son of the late Rolland and Ghita (Marsh) Owen.

Mr. Owen was raised in Colorado and was a graduate of Olathe High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean era. While on leave during his time in the Navy, he met his beloved wife, the late Lorraine F. (Gorman) Owen. Mr. Owen loved growing up in Colorado and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Having been a Wakefield resident for more than 50 years, Mr. Owen travelled back to Colorado as often as he could, taking his family on vacation there at least once a year. He had worked many years as a self-employed contractor.

Mr. Owen was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine F. (Gorman) Owen. He was the loving father of Janice M. “Jan” Owen-Thomas and her husband Peter Thomas of Kittery, Maine and Jeffrey D. Owen of Wakefield. He was the brother of the late Don E. Owen. He was the grandfather of Callie Thomas, Nathaniel Thomas, Justin Silva, Katherine Owen, Lillian Owen, Elizabeth Owen, Mariellen Owen, and the late Jeff Owen. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter: Jestina Owen.

Funeral services were private. Arrangements in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield.
