WAKEFIELD – John G. Haggerty, 82 a lifelong resident of Wakefield, died Tuesday November 26, 2019 at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Born in Stoneham, July 12, 1937 he was the son of the late Thomas and Marion (Surette) Haggerty.

John was a graduate of Wakefield high School class of 1956. He captained the hockey team and was a member of the baseball team. He proudly served his country towards the end of the Korean Conflict. John was a retired lineman for the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department. He was a member of the West Side Social Club and the Melrose V.F.W.

John was the beloved husband of Gail (Burke) Haggerty, the loving father of Alice Flanders and husband Mark of Conway, S.C., Laurie Heeney and husband Michael of Milford, N.H., Kevin Haggerty and wife Laura and Kelly Haggerty all of Wakefield and Jack Haggerty and wife Maria of Stoneham. Brother of the late Brian and Charlie Haggerty. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

John’s funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
