WAKEFIELD — John J. Sheehy, 82, of Wakefield, died Friday, June 24 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cambridge on Nov. 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Mago J. and Mary A. (Curran) Sheehy.

Mr. Sheehy was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School, Class of 1952. He then went on to graduate from Boston University in 1956.

Mr. Sheehy served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a retired accountant for the Department of Transportation. He was a longtime Wakefield resident, having lived in town for 46 years and was a member of St. Joseph Parish.

John was the husband of Una M. (Kenney) Sheehy. He was the father of Kathleen A. Sliney and her husband Thomas of Milford, Thomas J. Sheehy of Milford and Kevin J. Sheehy and his wife Kathleen of Deerfield, N.H. He was the brother of the late James Sheehy and Mary McTeague. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Erin, Joseph and Patricia Sliney.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 o’clock.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be at Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
