MALDEN — John L. Alden, 93, of Malden, passed away on July 1.
John was the beloved husband of Janice M. (Shepard) Alden of Malden. He was the loving step-father of Douglas A. Schorr and his wife Kelly of Wayland, Debra J. Vanderbeek and her husband Henry of New Hampshire and Dennis P. Schorr of Malden. He was the caring step-grandfather of Angelina Schorr and Leigh Ward. He is also survived by many step nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Priscilla Alden.
John was a graduate of Brockton High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II.
He worked as a printer for the New Bedford Standard Times as well as numerous other newspapers over the years.
John also worked security at the South Shore Hospital and later spent many years volunteering there.
John and his wife Janice were members of the United Methodist Church in Melrose. He enjoyed movies, reading, going to church and spending time with friends.
A funeral service will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Friday, July 8, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
